The Paper Moon series is a new lighting design jointly developed by the long-established lantern manufacturer Asano Shoten and designer Shigeru Uchida.

A simple design that suits both Japanese and Western rooms.
The gentle light that shines through the washi paper creates a relaxing space.

In the castle town of Gifu A long-established manufacturer that has been making traditional Gifu lanterns since the Edo period.
Gifu lanterns are made one by one by skilled craftsmen, and are one of Japan's unique traditional crafts, featuring delicate autumn grasses and landscape patterns on thin, almost transparent Japanese paper or silk fabric. Making use of techniques handed down from generation to generation, we are creating new products that blend into modern lifestyles.

- Shigeru Uchida [1943 - 2016] -
Born in Yokohama in 1943. As one of Japan's leading designers, he is not limited to designing commercial and residential spaces, but is also active both in Japan and overseas in a wide range of areas, from furniture and industrial design to regional development. Many of his works are included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Denver Art Museum, Conran Foundation, M+ Museum, and others. His representative works include the comprehensive design of Yohji Yamamoto's boutique, Kobe Fashion Museum, the teahouses "Juan, Soan, Gyoan," the interior spaces of the Crest Tower, Hotel Il Palazzo, Mojiko Hotel, and Kyoto Hotel Lobby. His books include "Interiors and the Japanese," "Teahouses and Interiors," and "Postwar Japanese Design History."
